Format error: Missing EC number

The RCSB website does not display an enzyme classification (EC) number for this entry. This value should be;

  • E.C. 3.6.1.48

Looking closely in the CIF file for this entry, the 'entity' records show the cause of this problem. The structure has several entity records, for example, one poly-peptide chain (ELONGATION FACTOR TU x3) and one ligand (MAGNESIUM ION x3). The cause of the above error is that the EC number has been assigned to the ligand entity, and not the polymer entity.

Looking at the polymer entity alone, you would not notice the EC number. Looking at the 'non-polymer' entity alone, the EC number makes no sense. This is why the RSCB web-page for this entry is incorrect.

This is a rather technical error, reflecting an error in the underlying data that should be remediated.
